How to Decorate a Small House in Countryside Style: Real Example
This idyllic cottage is located in the colorful landscape of the Cantabria region, in northern Spain. In fact, it didn't always look this stunning. Previously, there was a partially destroyed barn on the site. The owners decided to give it a second chance, rebuilt and restored it. After some time, the emergency structure was transformed beyond recognition.

Older buildings that have lived through time and thus gained even more charm are perfect for countryside interiors. In addition, the house is full of other elements typical of this style — exposed beams, an abundance of wood in finishes and large simple windows, making the countryside style a natural fit.

The walls were painted white and cream, wide wooden planks were laid on the floor, and the ceiling beams were left unfinished for more expressive effect. The fireplace opposite the window in the living room was framed with a wide mirror: this solution solved the decor problem of the fireplace shelf, and those sitting on the sofa can now see what's happening in the courtyard.

The chests of drawers, sideboards and tables were chosen to match the house’s style with old-fashioned design and worn-out facades. It seems that many of these items were used by more than one generation, which only adds to their appeal. The soft furnishings in the interior also show signs of age, but this is a deliberate effect: look closely at the chair upholstery — it's in perfect condition.

A serious approach was taken to working with textiles. Without textured throws, dense cream curtains and pillows in printed covers, the interior would have seemed sparse and neglected.
Equally attention was paid to decor. Woven baskets and vases, carved wooden trays, plaster figurines and other cozy details help maintain the atmosphere of an old “grandmother’s” home.

Only the kitchen stands out from this idyllic whole. It is modern, though it somewhat echoes the overall setup. Style is style, but functionality remains a priority.
