Simple solutions that won't require any cost from you

It's getting hot outside, and your apartment is even hotter — and you don't have an air conditioner? We tell you what you can do.

Keep Windows Covered with Curtains

Up to 30% of unwanted heat enters our apartments through windows. The solution is simple — buy heavy curtains or blinds and keep the windows closed during the day. This is especially important for apartment owners with south-facing windows.

Close the Doors

If you want to keep the living room cool during the day — don't forget to close the door to the room in the morning. At night, however, the principle works in reverse: to refresh your apartment, open all doors — except the front door, of course.

Ventilate the Room at the Right Time

Ventilate your apartment only early in the morning or late in the evening — that way it will be filled with fresh, cool air.

Use a Fan

Place a large bowl of ice in front of your desk fan — the airflow passing through it will cool and humidify the room.

Change Bedding

The most suitable material for hot summer nights is cotton and natural silk. Sheets and pillowcases made from these fabrics let air through and stay cool. Consider orthopedic pillows filled with buckwheat husks — they're much better than synthetic ones.

Replace Light Bulbs

If you haven't switched to energy-saving bulbs yet — now is the time. Incandescent bulbs release up to 90% of the heat they produce into the environment — so not only will you lower the temperature in your apartment, but you'll also save on utility bills.

Remove Carpets

Walking barefoot on the floor in summer is cooler and more pleasant. In addition, dust and fine dirt settle on carpets in larger amounts during summer than at any other time of the year.

Use Appliances Less Often

Appliances we usually use at home — computers, irons, TVs — produce heat while operating. Minimize their usage time or at least stop using them a few hours before bedtime so they have time to cool down.

Humidify the Air

If you have a humidifier, turn it on more often. You can also use an air purifier: it collects microbes and cleans the air of dust.

Place Containers with Ice

Put ice cubes in glasses, bottles, and bowls, and arrange them around the perimeter of the room — you'll immediately feel more comfortable.

Eat More Fresh Salads

How is food related to cooling the room? It's very simple: the less you cook, the slower the temperature rises in your kitchen and other rooms. If you do need to heat up food, it's better to use a microwave.

And Sleep on the Floor

Cold air settles at the bottom, and hot air rises — it's better to move closer to the floor at night.
