Proper lighting can make even a small bathroom feel more spacious. How much light is needed and how to organize it — professionals will help you find out.

Plan the placement of light fixtures in advance, because it will be difficult to change them after the renovation is finished. What to consider was explained by Konstantin Tsepeliev.

The main rule — safety

When choosing equipment, remember that electrical appliances in the bathroom can come into contact with water, so it is very important to follow safety rules.

The bigger the bathroom, the more light it needs

For a small bathroom with an area of about five square meters, a ceiling-mounted fixture with two or three lamps will be sufficient. But even if the bathroom is small, it's better to additionally illuminate the area near the sink and mirror so that you can more easily perform cosmetic procedures.

Distribute light by zones

If the bathroom is spacious enough, local lighting should be provided, the specifics of which will depend on the layout and design concept. The light should be distributed properly, with fixtures placed in all functional areas of the bathroom.

The more light sources, the lower their power

If you want your bathroom to be evenly lit, remember the rule: the more light sources in the room, the lower their power should be.

Avoid glare

It's not advisable to direct light fixtures perpendicular to reflective surfaces. It's better if they are positioned at an angle.

Don't follow stereotypes

A common mistake is placing one light fixture directly above the mirror. Most likely, in this case, the reflection will be slightly distorted. It's better to install lights on both sides of the mirror — or above and on the sides.

Save electricity

It's better to connect different light fixtures in the bathroom on separate circuits, since not every time will you need to turn all the lights on at once. And the most important advice: consult professionals!
