Vibrant Interior of a Cottage in Palm Springs
A muted palette in public areas and a burst of colors in bedrooms and bathrooms — according to the author of this interior, an ideal beachfront house looks exactly like this
When the owners of this 1940s bungalow asked designer Lindsey Lane to literally save the interior from boredom, it indeed looked rather dreary.
The family from Manhattan with three children and a dog wanted a seaside-style setting, but before the designer arrived, they had to rest in an environment of white and beige walls, dark floors, and mundane furniture. The kitchen also did not satisfy the clients: it was too cramped and inconvenient for preparing meals for a family of five.

Lindsey first began remodeling the layout of the house, 'breaking' the bedroom space into a living room that was previously located in the narrow part of the house, and widened the kitchen. Here, the designer worked on ergonomics, replacing a large kitchen island with a more compact one and adding open shelves to the lower cabinets so that everything was within reach during cooking.
The work surface was clad in a bold black-and-white tile to make the restrained kitchen space more expressive.

Lindsey decorated the living room and dining area in a similarly restrained manner. Although their palette differs only slightly from the previous one, the new look of the bungalow's public areas appears light and truly summery due to light floors, cozy wicker furniture, and cushions covered in blue and 'tropical' covers.

The overall atmosphere is refreshed by the ceilings, which give it proper layered depth. For example, in the living room, Lindsey draped them with linen fabric; in one of the master bedrooms, she painted them in sky tones; and in the children's room, she decorated them with sunburst wallpapers.

And in the relaxation zones, real fun begins — designed by the designer using wallpapers with vibrant patterns, beds with surfboard-shaped headboards, and airy, weightless accessories in water, tropical, and sandy beach colors.
The result is exactly as the clients wanted — in a seaside style.
