Minimalist, multifunctional and eco-friendly storage systems are in the spotlight

It's not always easy to guess the purpose of a piece of furniture at first glance. A wall panel can transform into a coat rack, while a metal sheet with holes or intricately crossed rods may become a chest of drawers. Designer Nikita Zub visited the Stockholm Furniture Fair and shared his selection of furniture essential for small apartments.

Chest of Drawers Homer, Harald Hermanrud

Danish designer Harald Hermanrud created his own furniture brand in 2016 with the motto "The less, the better." For example, the Homer chest is made of simple, hand-sanded boards, shelves and small drawers assembled into a complex maze. Despite its simplicity, the structure attracts attention.

Wall Coat Hanger The Hanger, Klassik Studio

This wall coat hanger was designed by Adam Hoff and Paul Ostergaard back in 1964. At first glance, it might seem like a minimalist decor piece, but in reality, it transforms into a functional coat hanger with smart design.

The Hanger is made from solid oak and is available in three colors: gray, white, black. Dimensions: 27.5 / 55.5 / D: 6.5/29 cm

Bloom Table

A minimalist metal table with a wooden top is produced on a custom basis. You can choose the height of the base—between 30 to 105 cm for any room size, round or square top, and one of 12 colors and shades.

Georg Hanging System, Skagerak

Chris Lilienberg Haalström designed the Georg hanging system for the Danish brand Skagerak. The base is wooden, consisting of just three crossbars secured together. You can hang towels or hooks on it, or even loop a leather strap with pairs of hangers at each end. It's an excellent solution to prepare your clothes for the next day.

Libertine Stand, Million

A combination of industrial and Scandinavian styles gave birth to a wardrobe and shoe stand made from steel tubes. The design was created by Jens Kjærs and Klaus Jacobsen for the brand Million. The structure is mounted on the wall and takes up minimal floor space, making it perfect for narrow hallways.

Dragonfly Desk Lamp, Todos

A minimalist wooden desk lamp with minimal joints and fasteners is surprisingly multifunctional. The LED is built into one of the thin rectangular elements and almost imperceptible.

If you lay the lamp in a straight line, it becomes a 1-meter tall floor lamp. If you bend it, it lights up the work surface, and if folded in half, it becomes a nightlight. The warm tone and texture of wood from different species are preserved.

Whistler Storage System, Mount Design

The Whistler storage system helps gather many small items in one place while taking up minimal space—its thickness is only 10 cm. Metal with various shapes and sizes of holes cut out in one piece suits office supplies, boxes and books.

This solution was developed by designer Patrick Carlsson in 2017. You can choose unfinished metal or paint it with a layer of black or red paint.

Kilimanjaro Cabinet, Mount Design

Despite its modest dimensions (70x23x13 cm), the wall-mounted cabinet Kilimanjaro has enough shelves to store all medical supplies, office materials or cosmetics. The minimalist design for the Mount Design brand was created by Patrick Carlsson.

Tojbox Wardrobe, Woud

At moments when the Tojbox wardrobe doesn't perform its primary function of storing clothes, it becomes a stylish art object that decorates the room. The two-meter wooden structure allows hanging clothes on racks and stacking them on shelves. There's also enough space underneath for shoes.

The minimalist design without a single nail or screw was developed by Michael Dae Kristen for the Danish brand Woud in the studio that preserves the traditions of Scandinavian design.

Reflect Cabinet, Muuto

The Muuto furniture line is called "New Scandinavian"—strikingly durable and wear-resistant, yet stylish and eco-friendly. The Reflect cabinets come in various sizes and configurations—from bedside tables to full buffets.

The front and back panels look like they are made from a single piece of wood, preserving the grain pattern. Therefore, the Reflect cabinet can be used for space zoning—it looks equally good from all sides.
