More Than Design: Decorating Interior in Hygge Style
Simple ways to make your home a source of happiness right now
We have already talked about Danish life philosophy – hygge. Hygge is comfort, a state of peace, and a feeling of safety and well-being. Cold autumn is the perfect time to remember it.
1. Hyggekrog
A rough translation of this word is "cozy corner". Create a place where you can sit wrapped in a blanket, with a book and a cup of tea. A wide windowsill is ideal for this, but it's not necessary to make a hyggekrog right by the window.

2. Fireplace
Denmarks residents consider the fireplace as a symbol of hygge. Not everyone has the possibility to install one in an apartment, but you can set up a fake fireplace.

3. Candles
No candles – no hygge. Just don't forget to ventilate the room: candles heavily pollute the air with harmful micro-particles for health.

4. Furniture and Decor from Wood
Wood makes us feel closer to nature, it is a simple and natural material that fully aligns with the concept of hygge.

5. Nature
Denmarks want to bring a whole forest into their homes. Leaves, cones, branches, animal skins will make the interior unique.

6. Ceramic and Porcelain
A beautiful teapot, a vase on the dining table, your favorite mug from which you always drink tea – all this is hygge.
Especially in Denmark, two brands are loved: Kähler, which became a sensation at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1889, and Royal Copenhagen, founded in 1775 by Queen Juliane Marie.

7. Tactility
In hygge-style interiors, it's not just about how things look but also how they feel. Think about which tactile sensations your items evoke and create texture diversity in your home.

8. Vintage
An old lamp, table or chair – these are real hygge. These items tell a story and have emotional value.

9. Throws and Pillows
A must-have for hygge, especially in cold seasons. A throw can be warm, made of wool or fleece, or lighter, made of cotton. It's preferable to have pillows in various sizes and many of them.

10. Lighting
The main principle is to use low-wattage lamps whose glow resembles a sunset or candle flame.
