How to Create an Eco-Style Interior: Fashionable Ideas
Natural materials, bright and pastel tones, exotic prints – the main features of an eco-style interior. Together with SKOL, we explore why it's so popular and how to recreate it
With the constantly accelerating pace of life, city dwellers need quality rest and draw energy from nature. Together with SKOL experts, we explore fashionable eco-style trends and how to apply them in interior design.
Quartz and Ochre
All seasonal color palettes feature natural hues. For example, in the previous season, hits were pink quartz and golden ochre – two soft natural tones: pearl-like glow and earth warmth.

Green
The favorite of 2017 were all shades of green – calming and soothing color. French designer and colorist Robert Gerve created an incredible palette of 8 deep, fresh tones. He borrowed colors from forests and the sea and gave each a poetic name: "Ocean Abyss", "Moss", "Forest Thicket". You can easily create a nature corner at home by filling your interior with such colors.

All Shades of Gray
Gray color and all its variations dominate in interior design. The ideal gray is featured in the Coherence collection by French brand Ressource. It includes all variations of its tone: from warm gray-pink and fresh gray-blue to dense anthracite. The interplay between humans and nature, childhood memories of walks in the French countryside, inspired the creator to develop this collection.

Blue and Sky Blue
Deep blue and all shades of sky blue were equally popular in 2017, perfectly fitting noble and refined interiors. Design star Sarah Lavoune created a sensation in the world of colors with her unique shade Le Bleu Sarah. Her blue-green plays with imagination, becoming either the color of ocean waves or dusty indigo.

Bright Colors and Pastel Tones
Global textile and wallpaper brands, like paint manufacturers, also follow modern color trends. The Belgian Omexco factory fills its collections with expressive blue, green, bright orange, red ochre, and muted pastel tones.

Natural Motifs
Birds
You can create an oasis at home using eco-motifs in interior design. For example, birds have firmly established themselves in the world of design. Factories usually choose exotic species for prints. Colorful parrots and paradise birds on the wall will fill any interior with tropics and heat.

Animals
The theme of animals remains in demand in interior fashion. The image of wild nature inspired the Belgian factory to create wallpaper collections imitating zebra skin. Animal prints convey the energy of the animal itself and add drama to the interior.

Trees, Air, Sky
These three fundamental elements of nature have always enchanted European designers with their Eastern philosophy. The young brand Tenue de Ville successfully conveyed the sense of world harmony, eco-friendliness, and purity in every centimeter of its new wallpaper collections. Floating clouds in the sky and pre-dawn forests are represented by soft blurred patches of ink. Adding these artworks to your interior will let you enjoy the feeling of thick, moist air and muted morning colors.

Palm Trees
This hot tropical motif remains popular in interior decoration. The lush green of the print brings you to warm sandy beaches, scorching sun, and ocean sounds. Simply paste a few wallpaper pieces to create a slice of paradise in your apartment.

Flowers, Vegetation
When it comes to floristic motifs, designers prefer plants symbolizing noble human qualities. Bamboo is often depicted on prints. Its shoots symbolize longevity and inexhaustible strength.
You can bring beauty, love, and tenderness to your home by decorating the interior with sakura patterns. Peonies are considered the most romantic flower and fill space with love and passion.

Natural Materials
Natural Fibers
According to eco-design philosophy, manufacturers strive to keep decorative materials as "raw" and unprocessed as possible. They prefer familiar wood and plant fibers. The Belgian Omexco factory uses flax, bamboo, sisal, jute, paper, and viscose for its creative projects. Among the most exotic materials are leaves of the Philippine lily.

The ecological standard is represented by Japanese wallpapers from Tomita factory. They are fully or partially handmade. The base material is "washi" paper, also made from plant fibers. Interior design using these wall coverings will be minimalist and help focus on the inner world, as promoted by Japanese philosophy.

Stucco
Gypsum is often used for decorating eco-style interiors – one of the coziest natural materials. No harmful components are added to its composition.
Interiors with stucco decoration are filled with air, warmth, and elegance. The most diverse designs in gypsum are offered by French Atelier Sedap factory. Simply touch these silk-like textured gypsum elements to fall in love with them forever.
