10 Ways to Ruin Your Perfect Interior
Even the most beautiful, perfectly balanced interior can be destroyed in a couple of months. Designer Victoria Kruzhinina tells you what ruins the picture
Colorful robes and various-sized jars of cream in the bathroom, scattered toys and shoes in the hallway – designer Victoria Kruzhinina explains how easy it is to spoil your apartment's design and how you can avoid that.
Victoria KruzhininaDesignerShe has been developing and creating private and public interiors for over 15 years, striving to meet every client's wishes and make the object as comfortable, beautiful, and relevant for many generations of its descendants as possible. 1. Disrupted Logistics
It sounds silly, but sometimes it's better to move a chair... The client says: "But I love watching TV this way!" But why didn’t you mention it earlier? In short, everything depends on how much the client and designer like each other during the project.
2. SouvenirsI personally believe these are remnants of Soviet times, when people didn’t travel anywhere and every souvenir brought back from another country showed that you're not like everyone else. Now everyone travels and brings home wooden camels and papyri.
The solution here is simple. Either you restrain yourself and don’t bring anything back from trips, or you position yourself as a traveler and ask to plan showcases or wardrobes that can be filled with souvenirs from distant lands.
3. Cheap KitchenwareFor some reason, people don’t want to use quality dishes every day; they are kept in cabinets, and tea and coffee are drunk from rough ceramic mugs that are somehow called glasses. But the day starts with morning coffee, and how pleasant it is to know that you're drinking it from a thin porcelain cup – a true work of art.
4. Open Bathroom DoorWhere will the cat litter box be placed? This question must be solved during the design project, otherwise your bathroom door will always remain open. From a feng shui perspective, this is just bad luck – money won't come into the house.

In such cases, we recommend installing a cat door in the bathroom; many manufacturers produce these models in various colors and finishes. The cat will thank you.
5. Mismatched Flower PotsThis is an art form – matching pots by color and shape. My search for suitable planters always takes a lot of time, but eventually I learn how to find them. There's a professional line of plastic planters made specifically for modern interiors. Sometimes I use vintage soup plates as planters, which look great in Stalinist apartments.
6. Poor PaintingI believe that a good copy of an artist is better than a student’s work from an art exhibition, because in our homes we spend no less than twelve hours a day, and everything that surrounds us affects our consciousness.
7. Shoes in the EntrywayNothing helps, no wardrobes or shelves. But we found a solution – we started making recesses under the wardrobes. You can kick your sneakers into them and keep things tidy.
8. Colorful Robes and Jars in the BathroomDesign is about form and color. Robes of different colors and numerous jars change the bathroom completely. Again, it's important to respect each other, because you can discuss everything before starting the renovation and make sure that the interior can live and grow.
9. Throws and PillowsEvery time you wonder where they got these pillows from? With embroidery, sequins, and fringe. And throws too. It’s understandable that people want to save their furniture, but now there are so many options... You can discuss any of them with your designer.
10. Scattered Children's ToysToday, it’s universally recognized that children should be taught from an early age that toys must be stored in a special place, taken care of, not scattered around the apartment. This is important for developing self-discipline. Our parents, for some reason, try to create a beautiful but not functional children's room where the child has nowhere to put toys.
