Focus on Fabric: Thin Stitched Material Matelassé
In the classical sense, this is hand-stitched fabric used for high-end upholstery of furniture, cushions, or as a blanket.
From traditional quilted covering made of several layers of fabric, synthetic fiber or cotton batting, high-quality matelassé is created on a loom. The result is a slightly padded appearance, stitched with coarse cotton threads. Sometimes it is called corduroy due to its subsequent processing. Let's see how simply and stylishly it can be used for modern home decor.

What is Matelassé?
It is believed that the birthplace of this exotic textile is France, as the name comes from the French word matelasser, which translates to 'to stitch' in Russian. It was first made by hand, and commercial production, if one can call it that, began in 1760. Matelassé was mainly used for making bedspreads and sofa covers.

One Color, Thin Lines
If you appreciate textile materials and are willing to spend a little more, matelassé is definitely for you. Extremely thin, made from threads of one color—usually white or ochre—it transforms interior design irrevocably.

Perfect as a Summer Blanket
Despite its thinness and lightness, a matelassé blanket is incredibly breathable and warm. It easily keeps you cozy on summer nights and prevents overheating even if you sleep through lunchtime.
