Summer is one of the best times to enjoy a well-deserved vacation with family. But before you leave, it's important to think about how to care for plants while on vacation. That way, you won't have to rely on others when you're away for a few days. If you're lucky enough to have a neighbor or relative who can water your plants occasionally — great; but if not, there are other options.

If you're leaving for two or three days and watering your plants with a large amount of water, they will likely stay in excellent condition. Of course, you should place your plants in the shade so they aren't exposed to heat. If you have plants of different heights, position shorter ones under taller ones to provide more shade. If you're going away for a longer period, grab a pencil and paper. Figure out how to care for plants in your absence so when you return, they're in perfect shape.

1. Dripper System

This is one of the most common watering systems for plants when you're away for several days. It usually involves an inverted bottle for drip irrigation. This is very simple, and all you need are a bottle and water.

But how do you correctly place the water-filled bottle on your plant? First, fill the bottle with water and make a hole in the cap. Then place the bottle upside down into the pot. Keep in mind that the soil will receive a lot of water, so this method is not recommended for plants sensitive to overwatering.

2. Water Gel

Another way to care for plants during vacation that works very well is water gel. This type of hydrogel consists of water and nutrients that allow plants to gradually absorb water. As the soil dries out, the hydrogel slowly releases water.

3. Automatic Pots with Water Reservoir

At some point, you've probably seen such automatic pots. This is one of the most innovative ways to water plants while you're away without extra effort. These pots have a reservoir that waters plants as needed. Of course, this isn't the cheapest option, but it's most effective if you'll be on vacation for an extended period. These pots are safe and decorative, allowing efficient watering of plants.

4. Mist Effect

One way to care for plants during vacation is to create small individual greenhouses. If you have a few plants and don't want to spend much money, this is an excellent solution. Simply wrap the plants in transparent plastic so light can pass through. At the bottom of the plastic, right under the pot, add a moist cloth. Then close the bag — and you're done.

Essentially, the plastic covering should keep all moisture inside the plant. If you have very large plants, we recommend doing the same in the bathroom. This watering method is ideal for a few-day vacation.
