Tilt House by Mutant Architecture & Design

The challenge was to realize a single-story house project on a morphologically regular plot. The surrounding area, at the time of project execution, was urbanistically stabilized and mainly characterized by residential zones adjacent to several agglomerations of single-family homes and some multi-family buildings.

The presence of two facades on the site facing streets at different elevations allowed the house to be placed at an intermediate level, strategically separating pedestrian access from vehicular access.

TILT is a concept that generates an offer and characterizes three-axis rotational movement of the volume comprising the social area of the house. This motion defines the main entrance and simultaneously enhances the space designated for the pool, ensuring its privacy relative to Avenida Miguel Bombarda, which experiences heavy traffic. This motion also introduces dynamic height variations in the ceilings throughout the house, reinforcing the living area.

The programmatic definition was implemented according to cardinal points with special attention paid to solar rotation. Thus, the bedroom zone was realized on the eastern side and oriented toward the road with less traffic, Travessa Miguel Bombarda, developing towards a more intimate side of the garden. The main bedroom is located in the southernmost part of this volume and connects to the pool area. The kitchen was positioned at the center of the house, strengthening various relationships with different spaces forming the program. The room is centrally located on the site, receiving sunlight from east/south/west and allowing users to have a wide view of the surrounding environment.

To ensure privacy while maintaining interior light quality, two internal courtyards were designed—one in the office and one in the bedroom bathroom.
