Designed by the architecture studio Taller ACÁ, the Little Quinn House is a quite compact project. This modern two-story dwelling located in Guatemala offers just about 322 square feet of living space but achieves this with elegance and an elegant open layout.

The Little Quinn House is one of the smallest projects by Taller ACÁ and at the same time one of the most challenging. With an area of 30 square meters adjacent to the main house, this project was developed with the aim of turning a former neighbor shop into a cozy space for friends and family.

Our concept was to convey the spirit of a family that are excellent hosts, with diverse culture and sensitivity to nature. At the same time, we wanted to connect the building's history with the present moment by restoring and transforming the old brick-built shop with a modern and innovative language.

The architectural solution started with the existing structure, restoration of its original materials and addition of unique details through reimagining doors and windows which were transformed into decorative elements made from fired brick created by local craftsmen.

The first floor features a bedroom/living room area, kitchen and a full bathroom with separate shower and toilet zones, each enhanced by wooden doors repurposed from a farm dating back to the early 20th century owned by the family. A unique almost sculptural element is a round concrete sink that structures and defines the functions of different zones in such a small space.

The entire house consists of two floors, and a small metal staircase leads from the first to the second level where space forms a small relaxation area and bistro, perfectly suited for coffee and conversation.

The second level was built using a metal structure and panoramic window that makes the work an orienting point in the neighborhood, becoming an urban space. It also opens to a bridge leading to an amazing terrace which serves as the roof of the main house. The terrace offers unexpectedly beautiful views over the surrounding area and nearby city. This is an ideal spot for birdwatching, observing gardens and watching spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

Simplicity of work and careful concept and construction made it a meeting place for family and friends, as the owners describe – this little apartment is now their 'Happy Place'.
