House with Intention and Purpose

Located in a quiet gated residential complex in Bangalore, Modern Minimalist House is the embodiment of architectural intention and minimalistic precision. Designed by Crest Architects, this four-bedroom house of 4890 square feet was commissioned by a client returning from the US with a clear brief: to design living space that is straightforward, efficient and mindful, free from excess and defined by purpose.

A standout feature is the dramatic 24-foot overhanging volume, which expresses structural elegance and conceptual clarity.

Geometry, Light and Spatial Clarity

Crest Architects shaped the house through three massive cubic volumes. Two bases define separate functional zones, while a third connects them above, forming an H-shaped plan around a central well-maintained courtyard. This arrangement ensures natural airflow, visual harmony and intuitive connection between interior and exterior spaces.

One-third of the plot is deliberately left open, allowing the landscape to shape the architectural experience. The garden entrance marked by granite steps gently guides visitors into the serene architectural concept of the house.

Spatial Planning Based on Vastu Principles

Inspired by Vastu principles, the first floor divides public and private functions into separate blocks:

  • Front volume: Formal zones including living room, dining area and kitchen.

  • Rear volume: Bedrooms opening to the inner courtyard.

The space between them forms an informal double-height living area, bounded by a wooden terrace and reflecting pool, enhancing the connection between inside and outside.

Above it, the overhanging volume houses a multipurpose room beautifully shading the entrance and parking area. Light filters through louvers, adding movement of light and shadow. A bridge connects the bedrooms to the multipurpose space, maintaining visual contact with the central void and inner courtyard.

Structure, Materials and Interior in Minimalist Style

Crest Architects used honest, tactile materials—raw concrete, solid teak wood, natural stone and steel—to accentuate craftsmanship and texture. Interiors remain simple, adapted to residents' needs with small material variations for individuality while furniture and finishes play a supporting role in relation to architecture.

Artistry in Minimalist Clarity

The Modern Minimalist House is a testament to architecture as intentional reduction. From its bold overhanging element to minimalist interior solutions, every detail has meaning. The result: a calm, timeless house built on form, light and spatial depth—crafted with precision by Crest Architects.
