We select finishing options. The most important criteria when choosing ceiling finish for a bedroom: ceiling height and ceiling curvature.

Selecting Finishing Options

The most important criteria when selecting ceiling finish for a bedroom:

  • ceiling height (the higher the ceiling, the more options there are for using additional structures – gypsum board finishing, installing suspended ceilings, etc.);
  • ceiling curvature (unfortunately, most ceilings in houses and apartments, especially Khrushchyovkas, are curved beyond belief: one ceiling can simply be leveled, while another may require gypsum board);
  • ceiling slope level (a regular flat ceiling or, for example, a mansard ceiling positioned at an angle to the walls with windows) and others.

Each ceiling requires its specific approach that hides imperfections and allows creating the most aesthetic appearance of the room.

Bedroom with a Curved Ceiling

This is the most common issue, which can be solved with a suspended ceiling – flat, glossy, beautiful, and very practical if neighbors occasionally flood from above or the roof leaks.

Irregular joints of panels and "wave-like" angles can be perfectly concealed with gypsum board. A gypsum board ceiling can be multi-level. Usually, 2–3 levels are created, framed and highlighted with backlighting. One of the most popular approaches is creating a multi-level ceiling structure directly above the bed. Additionally, you can drape the ceiling with fabric.

Bedroom with a Slanted Ceiling

In bedrooms located on mansards, ceilings have an unusual design: they consist of several planes at different angles to the walls. The slanted part may include windows. Since the shape of a slanted ceiling is already original by itself, it’s best to paint such a mansard ceiling in one tone or cover it with monochrome wallpapers in pastel tones. White and milk colors are most suitable for a mansard bedroom.

Bedroom with Low Ceiling

A low ceiling can feel oppressive and discouraging to a person. Therefore, it is problematic to use suspended or multi-level ceilings in rooms with low ceilings, as they consume precious centimeters. However, for example, a light glossy stretch ceiling can visually increase the height. The same result can be achieved by painting the ceiling in a light cool tone – pearl, light blue, etc. Another approach is to wallpaper the walls and ceiling with the same pattern, which allows blurring the boundaries between the ceiling and walls. Another design trick is to give the ceiling volume by painting it in a darker cool color and crosswise covering it with light moldings.

Ceiling design should correspond to the overall style of the bedroom, fit into its interior, and support its atmosphere.
