Lake Wylie V House for Producers by Superorganism Architects

This project presents a special type of home – The Producer's House at Lake Wylie V, located in Xintian, the heart of Shanghai's central area.

Project Profile

As one of Shanghai's main treasures, Lake Wylie V is not only a residential complex but also a symbol of Shanghai's cultural heritage, carrying a unique style and artistic atmosphere. Thanks to its premium positioning and high quality, Lake Wylie V offers a pursuit of elite lifestyle and attracts residents who know how to enjoy the best in life.

Chi De Lin, lead designer at Superorganism Architects, spent two and a half years perfecting and refining the design theme "Let's Play" for this Producer's House. Here, East meets West, classic and trend, fashion and time blend to create a harmonious dialogue with time and space.

Characteristics

Profession: Director or Producer

A couple experienced in the film industry with excellent taste and artistic sense

This is not their main home, but a place for meeting friends, communication, inspiration and creative energy development.

Meeting their pursuit of an elite lifestyle, the entire space is executed with high quality and sophistication.

Although the space is usually used exclusively by this couple, due to their extensive social connections and networks across various industries, the functionality of the space is paramount for meeting clients' needs in daily social events and meetings.

Layout

With a deep understanding of the clients' character and lifestyle, the designer paid special attention to spatial flow and harmony with their unique way of life. Traditional concepts of "home" were discarded, transforming the layout from a traditional single-story residential space into a revolutionary home with bright and light spaces on the first floor, as well as independent and private space on the second floor, offering diverse options for everyday life.

Design Language

Inspired by Shanghai's unique romantic culture, Li Ning transformed the linear form reflecting details of Shikmen in Xintian, Shanghai into a design language that runs through the entire series of landscape solutions. Unlike traditionally popular rounded forms, Li created a stylish curved structure filled with Shanghai elements combining East and West.

Besides the attractive arched entrance, the lower corner of the partition between the entrance and living room, a large area on the back wall of the living room, an arch at the end of the corridor and other interior elements demonstrate characteristic curves. This subtle design element helps create smooth and permeable lines, softens angles and gives the space style and artistry.

Design Features

  • The designer provided additional functional zones for communication, work and relaxation in the 500 sqm Producer's House:
  • The garden entrance creates a sense of ritual and relaxation;
  • An indoor space for rest and sports adjacent to the main bedroom on the first floor connects with a small private garden;
  • The dining room and common garden create a cozy atmosphere for meetings and communication;
  • The first-floor staircase connects to the lobby door of the elevator hall, which leads directly into the underground garage;
  • The first-floor public area connects with the garden, creating a relaxed and pleasant after-party atmosphere;
  • The first-floor office is designed to the size of a bedroom and easily adapts to any changes or expansions;
  • On the second floor, there is a separate bedroom and relaxation area, so sometimes if one person goes to sleep, the other can enter directly from the garage on the second floor without disturbing their partner.

Whether a full functional zone or a corner of space, soft decoration was an important element for the overall spatial dynamics. The designer strictly followed this key point at every stage of design, integrating hard and soft elements for natural and smooth spatial distribution.

Each element was carefully refined to achieve maximum effect. In the design of the rotating staircase, the curvature throughout the space was maintained, perfectly gluing wood parts for an elegant wrap around the staircase. Furthermore, each piece of wood was manually integrated into every step to achieve an invisible appearance.

The outdoor space, nearly 200 square meters in size, was designed for various events in the garden. With added visual transparency from PEEKABOO, green plantings create a play of spatial density.

This exquisite two-story house with pathways and soft finishes achieves even higher levels of luxury and elegance, gently combining historical style with modern lifestyle.

Space Interpretation

Entrance

The entrance to this special home is quite spacious compared to others, featuring a curved Shikmen arch reflecting the surroundings. The designer aimed to preserve a sense of luxury, allowing the entrance to be fully utilized.

The entire entrance zone meets daily requirements while also reflecting a sense of ritual and artistic space. The layout is organized so that the left side has a high part, and the right side low, creating a visual focus (entrance) and sense of relaxation (bench), inspiring hope and imagination.

Living Room

The living room is spacious and majestic, connecting with the dining area in the corner, Western kitchen and central island. With an open layout, everything can be seen at once. Large floor-to-ceiling windows on the first floor overlook an inner courtyard, offering a panoramic view of the elegant landscape composition.

The spacious common area connects with the courtyard and can accommodate various forms of social gatherings.

Three sets of individual sofas in the living room are original designer projects and arranged so that one faces the wall, while two others form a space around it. The effect resembles private islands in an ocean, helping overcome the void of passage and breaking traditional notions about sofa layouts.

Dining Room and Central Island

This house distinguishes itself through an integrated design of the living room and dining area. Framed by large curved floor-to-ceiling windows, the entire zone creates a smooth spatial dynamics integrating internal and external activities.

The central island reflects the design elements of the dining area. Modernly, the dining room is no longer a central point, and food preparation can be hidden in the corner kitchen. This allows for more opportunities for life in the dining area and provides potential both personal comfort and social fun.

Garden Courtyard and Party Zone

Working interactively with the interior space, the magnificent garden courtyard was specially designed for this unique type of home with a sunny open space ideal for communication and relaxation after dinner outdoors.

Two individual connected dining tables have six different combinations to meet the needs of various indoor and outdoor events.

Hallway

An important passage both for connecting and separating spaces, the hallway uses a clever layered method in interior design to make something interesting. Lighting plays a harmonizing role in forming the overall atmosphere.

The first-floor hallway resembles a time tunnel and cleverly conceals the kitchen and entrance.

Common Area

This large house is not only a regular residence but also provides functionality and pleasure. The location of the common area perfectly matches residents' lifestyle and routine.

The layout of the common area is inspired by a celestial kingdom. When one stands at the entrance to the staircase, the entire zone resembles a clock face with minute and second hands—a unique designer idea. The theme of astronomy with the starry sky and full moon is reflected not only in the layouts of large modules such as the sofa and coffee table but also in every decoration on the coffee table. All elements have unique significance, details reflected even in the smallest parts of the clock.

Although the main sofa in the common area differs in design from that of the living room, it continues the same idea with an island layout. With full coverage, dialogue and communication naturally arise in a space without restrictions.

Office

One of the quietest places in the entire house, the office is a place where absolute privacy is needed for creative thinking and focused work.

The office space consists of a separate bookshelf on the corridor side, a curved office and a standalone bathroom. Immersed in reading or creative inspiration, residents can stay as long as needed without distractions.

If the number of family members increases in the future, the office can also be transformed into a separate bedroom. Although tables and chairs may be replaced with a queen-size bed, the standalone bookshelf can also be replaced with a separate wardrobe, opening up a full bedroom. With careful planning, the designer installed switches and outlets in convenient locations on the wall for future needs.

Relaxation Area

More than just a relaxation zone, this "man's den" was designed with a masculine perspective.

The layout is divided into two parts. One focuses on a large poker table suitable for many different card games, while the other part includes the remaining room containing a curved sofa with a portable wine cabinet, collection shelf, smoking area for cigars, tall bookshelf and opposite low cabinet.

Second Floor Bedroom (Master Bedroom)

Fitted with a bathroom and wardrobe, the second-floor bedroom is a place to rest when residents sometimes return home late and want to avoid disturbing their partner.

Dark wall cladding creates an interesting contrast and adds hierarchy to the space. The left side of the bed headboard is equipped with a built-in bedside table, while the right side is specially designed with a semi-circular shape reflecting the design of the space and rigid lines of the rest of the house.

First Floor Bedroom (Owner's Bedroom)

Although the main bedroom on the first floor is not gender-specific, some feminine design elements were added by the designer that can be characterized as elegant, relaxed, self-disciplined and temperamental.

An indoor fitness room is planned in the bedroom and connects to a small private garden, using special green plantings and planting height to limit this outdoor space for better privacy.

A set of moveable oval wooden grills was added between the fitness room and bedroom to separate the yoga area from the bedroom. Non-solid walls effectively protect the privacy of the bedroom zone. With various turning angles, different levels of privacy can be achieved.

As the main bedroom for residents, the layout leans towards a formal atmosphere with a wardrobe wall and full walk-in closet.

Garden Terrace

The entire house has nearly 200 square meters of outdoor space, rarely found in central Shanghai where land is very expensive. Along the outer perimeter lies a huge 270-degree curved terrace, which serves not only as full decoration itself but also is divided into several recreational or functional zones according to corresponding interior rooms.
