Podfusak Residence by Dva Arhitekta
Dva Arhitekta completed the Podfusak Residence project in Zagreb, Croatia. This house is located near the city center among mostly small residential buildings and several single-story homes. The modern facade of this house opens almost 8,500 square feet of space for its clean and bright minimalist interior design.

The house was designed for a young family who wanted to build a new home in a green area near the city center. Mainly small residential buildings combined with some single-story homes replace old garden houses that previously created an idyllic pastoral atmosphere in the area. The main requirement was to blend into the surroundings and ensure an open view to the south and greenery. Using fired brick as a facade cladding, the house harmoniously fits into the old and unfinished development of the surrounding area.
One level below is used as service space, while the first floor is designated for a bedroom. Most family activities take place on the first floor. Large openings face green areas, while internal parts of the main volume provide intimacy. The northern facade is very closed off from street views, while the other three sides of the building volume retreat inward. The first internal space is designed for an entrance hall and connection between the basement and garage.
It's precisely the fluidity of space that creates the strongest impression upon entering the house. Another internal area defines an atrium, connected to the most important part of the house – kitchen, dining room and living room. The atrium brings nature and natural light into the home, providing intimacy while hiding views from neighbors. The third and largest space, simultaneously connecting and separating the living and dining zones, is positioned diagonally toward the best view. In addition to large windows on the facade, the house is heated via geothermal resources through walls and floors, making it an energy-efficient building.
