Nominations for the Daylight Award 2026: Recognizing Outstanding Achievements in Daylight Research and Architecture
Nominations for the Daylight Award 2026 are now open. Continuing our mission to recognize outstanding contributions to the innovative use of natural light in architecture and research, the award remains a prestigious platform for honoring works that enhance human wellbeing and sustainability through daylight.
Conducted every two years by the Daylight Academy, an international network uniting scientists, researchers, and architects, the award is presented in two categories:

Daylight Research – Recognition of scientific and humanities research expanding understanding of daylight and its impact on human health, productivity, and behavior.
Daylight in Architecture – Honoring architectural projects or practices that skillfully integrate daylight as a key and sustainable design element.
Global Call for Nominations
Nominations for 2026 are accepted worldwide. Candidates can be proposed by scientists, researchers, architects, curators, editors, journalists and other professionals capable of recommending outstanding individuals or teams. It is important that all nominations are anonymous, and self-nominations are not allowed.
"With daylight as a natural, sustainable and human-centered resource, this award highlights the vital role of daylight in both built environments and human biology," says the Daylight Award Committee.

Jury of Merit
The 2026 jury brings a distinguished interdisciplinary team, led by Professor Gerhard Foltz, emeritus professor (Switzerland). Other jury members include:
Dorte Mandrup – Architect and professor (Denmark)
Russell Foster – Neurobiologist and professor (United Kingdom)
Annette Gigon – Architect and emeritus professor (Switzerland)
Iwan Baan – Renowned architectural photographer (Netherlands/USA)
Iwona de Cort – Ecological psychologist and professor (Netherlands)
Michael J. Balick – Ethnobotanist (USA)
These experts offer a diverse and critically important perspective when evaluating the significance and innovation of each nomination.

The Daylight Award encourages global dialogue on the role of natural light in creating a healthier and more sustainable environment. As the world faces challenges of climate change, urbanization, and human wellbeing, this award remains a beacon for interdisciplinary innovation.
