Manaus House by Alexia Convers Architecture

Alexia Convers Architects designed a luxurious modern home located in the heart of Brazil's tropical rainforest, within Manaus' green zone right next to the Rio Negro river. With 7,500 square feet of luxurious living space, the goal of this design is to bring the captivating landscapes surrounding the house inside.

Manaus House by Alexia Convers Architecture in Brazil

The house is located right at the heart of the Amazon jungle, in Manaus' green zone by the Rio Negro river.

The staggered floor plan, composed of alternating raised roofs and open internal patios, begins with full permeability from the street and gradually opens up to the forest. The boundaries between interior and exterior spaces are then blurred. Nature is invited into the home, which becomes greener and greener towards the forest. This alternating system in the daytime area also ensures comfortable natural airflow for heat dissipation in this humid tropical climate, as well as natural lighting. Fresh air enters the manicured patios, while windows created by raised roofs allow hot air to escape.

In this tropical monsoon climate, water is also part of the house. Rain creates a waterfall in the entrance hall, and each internal patio enjoys rain chains. They provide a soothing soundscape during rainy days.

The night zone develops on the eastern side, around a larger internal patio that distributes all bedrooms. Each bathroom also has its own open manicured patio. The house provides constant visual connection to the trees, which also create very useful shade for the home. From anywhere in the house you see a green landscape.

The house is built with concrete structure and local exotic wooden doors, windows, and balconies. The floor finish is white cement, while all wet areas – the endless pool, barbecue zone, and waterfall at the entrance – are made of oxidized concrete.
