Renovation of an Elegant Family Home with Garden in the Heart of Paris
Beyond the beautiful gates of the capital, on certain streets, hidden homes with gardens are concealed from the knowledge of residents. This 19th-century house represents a typical example of these well-hidden secrets of Paris and its streets. The property had not been updated since the 1970s. The house was in complete decline on all levels: technically, with outdated electrical and plumbing systems, as well as in terms of layout, which was poorly suited to modern living. This beautiful red brick home had long been the residence of a very large family and was accordingly divided: small studios on upper floors, with closed rooms on the first floor including a living room, kitchen and private office. The staircase was also partitioned, separating the floors as in a traditional Parisian house.

The new homeowners left a bright apartment, fully renovated and located on the top floor. Although they obtained an invaluable space offered by this characteristic house, a total of 260 m², the couple was afraid of insufficient lighting that might hinder them from fully enjoying the exceptional spaces of the house. The main challenge in the renovation organized by architect Dario Muccedda was to find light and multiply it right at the heart of the living areas, fully open to each other. To solve this issue, the architect completely redesigned the layout of the first floor. Opening was key to his work. Opening up rooms to each other allowed light coming through the precious and beautiful skylight on the first floor to effectively spread and provide spatial fluidity. The feeling was enhanced by many interior design skills. The professional worked with the space as a modern family home, carefully preserving the character of the old one.
