The hot pink color has a very interesting history. It was created in 1937 by Italian fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. The stylist, immersed in Salvador Dalí's surrealism, was planning to launch a perfume called Shock, the bottle of which was inspired by the body of actress Mae West.

Not satisfied with just a bold bottle, the stylist asked for a bright pink paint to be created for the product's outer packaging. That is when hot pink was 'born' to accompany a perfume with the same name.

However, the color was not very pleasing and spent years with minimal support. It wasn't until the 1980s, thanks to the wave movement, that hot pink returned with full force. It's no surprise that one of the great cinematic successes of the time, 'The Girl in Shocking Pink,' bore the name of the color.

In the 2000s, the color began to be associated with pretentious girls and often carried a reputation of low intelligence, as seen in movies like 'Legally Blonde' and 'Mean Girls.' For years, the color bore the burden of representing femininity in a stereotyped way—extremely fragile, lacking intelligence, imperfection, and dependence.

But of course, this story didn't end there. In 2022, fashion brand Valentino launched a collection of all colors. The idea behind the brand was to bring shocking pink, illuminating good mood and relaxation after a long period marked by social isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Celebrities around the world began raising the flag of shocking pink as a color of strength and self-expression, reaching digital spaces and inspiring other movements such as the Barbie code.

By the way, we can't help but mention that the release of the Barbie movie, scheduled for 2023, also stimulated a resurgence of hot pink in the spotlight, including the worlds of fashion and interior designers.
