How to Care for Plants in September: Give Them a Break After Vacations
Plants suffer in summer from heat and lack of attention during vacation. If they have dried out while you were away, you need to thoroughly hydrate them to restore their former glory. First remove the top layer of soil and carefully take the plant out of its pot without damaging the roots. Soak it in a container with warm water for 10 minutes. Return it to the pot and mist the leaves with a spray bottle.
TIME FOR REPOTTING
September is a good month for repotting some indoor plants if you haven't done it in spring, as it's not too cold or hot. It's convenient to remove dry leaves and perform preventive pruning by cutting old stems.
Autumn Plants
Sow annuals to bloom next spring. Choose varieties such as petunias, daisies, zinnias or begonias. Don't forget bulbs—such as dahlias, lilies or amaryllis—which are planted now and will bloom in spring.
Fertilize your plants. In September, it's important to provide more nutrients to strengthen them for autumn and winter. At this time, choose fertilizers rich in potassium.
