Modern luxury house with panoramic ocean views, contemporary architecture, glass balcony, stone accents and spacious terrace at sunset.

Located on the Atlantic coast of Cape Town at the foot of Lion's Head, Wave Villa is an architectural transformation by ARRCC. Preserving existing development, the firm completely reimagined the structure and interiors of the house, presenting a seamless open-plan layout that flawlessly connects interior and exterior spaces with breathtaking ocean views. At the heart of this renewal is a sculptural, wave-shaped concrete roof that appears to float above the main living area, supported by a steel frame and tall windows framing the view.

Spacial composition and design concept

The dwelling is organized into two main wings: zones for relaxation and entertainment, as well as private sleeping areas. The upper level maximizes panoramic sea views, offering an open living and dining area that opens onto the terrace through floor-to-ceiling doors. Below, on the lower level are three guest bedrooms, staff rooms, gym, office, playroom and an additional relaxation area that smoothly transitions into the pool terrace. The master bedroom is located on the upper level of the second wing, providing secluded rest with unparalleled views.

Architectural statement: roof inspired by nature

Only partial outlines of the dynamic roof are visible from the street, hinting at a bold interior design. The sculptural roof is inspired by ocean waves and surrounding mountains, creating both aesthetic and functional advantages. Inside the ceiling rises above the clearstory windows, offering mesmerizing views of Table Mountain and Lion's Head, allowing natural light to fill the interiors. The front edge of the roof rises upward, drawing attention to the sky and strengthening the house's connection with its natural environment.

Harmonious blend of light, space and materials

The upper part of the living space has been transformed into a bright pavilion designed for smooth integration with the garden and ocean-facing terrace. Perforated sliding metal screens regulate sunlight, creating dynamic patterns inside while ensuring privacy and solar control. The sculptural staircase in the shape of an 'orange peel' serves both functional and artistic purposes, connecting living and sleeping areas with a custom-designed pendant light installation.

A restrained yet rich color palette enhances the sensory experience of the home. Light oak on ceilings, walls and floors adds warmth and texture, while exposed concrete elements create a striking contrast. Local Cape Granite further integrates the villa into its dramatic mountainous setting.

Personalized experience: thoughtfully designed details and custom elements

The design seamlessly integrates custom features throughout the house. The kitchen opens onto the pool terrace and ocean beyond, while a neighboring garden nestles into the mountainside. The custom bar area, composed of Cape Granite, wood, brass and copper, embodies an elegant aesthetic. In the master bedroom, the roof was slightly raised for maximum views, strengthening the deep connection between the villa and landscape.

ARRCC's intervention not only elevated the architectural level of Wave Villa but also enhanced its symbiotic relationship with nature. This bold, sculptural renovation stands as a testament to modern coastal living where design, light and landscape intertwine in a harmonious play.
