Studio Quincoces-Dragò & Partners designed a unique space in one of the quiet corners of old Milan, Italy, bringing under one roof and common brand several different companies — Six design gallery, Sixième Bistrò bistro and Irene eco-design boutique.
Intimate and secret, the SIX space is located behind a large door opening facing Scaldasole street and features a 'old Milan' inner courtyard unexpectedly planted with tropical plants. Balconies leading to the patio and large open arches preserved from the 16th-century building evoke its past as a monastery.
During renovation, layers of plaster were removed and wall masonry was exposed, as well as original floors. Architects aimed for everything — from furniture to plants — to look as though it had always been here.
The overall atmosphere is the result of a subtle play of contrasts: smoky-gray walls with their brutal character harmoniously coexist with classic furniture, Vietnamese vases, handwoven carpets from Altai and Le Corbusier chairs.
