Glass Vertical House in Texas
Glass Vertical House in Texas
Architectural firm Miró Rivera Architects designed a private residence on an elevated site in Dallas, Texas, USA, offering breathtaking views of the city's central area. The five-story Glass Vertical House rises above the treetops, delighting residents with panoramic views of surrounding gardens and the inviting horizon beyond.
The client, a passionate collector of exotic plants, wanted a home that maximized site visibility while preserving privacy from neighbors. The residence was conceived as two interconnected, contrasting volumes: one side is fully transparent and oriented toward the gardens, while the other is more enclosed to ensure internal privacy. Each floor features a distinct functional zone, with ample public spaces located on the transparent side of the building.
The first floor is partially buried and includes a garage, storage rooms, utility spaces, and a restroom. The main entrance is on the second floor, accessed via a pedestrian path through gardens featuring native and exotic flora, crossing an open steel footbridge with glass handrails. The main bedroom on the third floor features a cantilevered balcony, whose underside is clad with warm wooden elements serving as a canopy over the entrance door. The guest bedroom on this level has floor-to-ceiling windows, while the laundry and bathroom areas are located on the more enclosed side of the house. The living room on the fourth floor appears to float in midair, an effect enhanced by a thin steel fireplace.
As you move vertically through the home, every large space is immediately accessible from the glass staircase, reflecting one of the client's key requirements. The view of the landscape and the distant horizon becomes increasingly impressive as the ground recedes, intensifying the sensation of floating space. A spacious open rooftop terrace offers a stunning 360-degree view of the surrounding area.
The interior features a subdued material palette of white walls and polished concrete floors, with a continuous accent wall made of Carrara marble running along the height of the connecting staircase.
The pool house, located on the north side, has a separate entrance and includes a gym and guest rooms. Its steel grating echoes the design of the main house.
