House in Kiev Suburbs by FORM bureau

Architects from FORM bureau presented the design of a Zen residence in the suburbs of Kiev, Ukraine. The private house with an area of 300 square meters is located on the premises of a cottage settlement, surrounded by deciduous and pine forests.

During the interior design process, various layout solutions were discussed. According to the developer's plan, the house was divided into many isolated rooms. Some partitions were removed, and then the main zones clearly found their place within the existing volumes of the house, while secondary ones were modified. To erase the boundary between living space and the plot area, panoramic windows and a large multifunctional terrace along the length of the house were introduced.

On the first floor are the living room with a fireplace, transitioning into a dining-kitchen area, a relaxation zone connected to the living room, a bathroom, an entrance hall, a garage, a boiler room, and a terrace. On the second floor are the bedroom with its own bathroom and wardrobe, an office, a gym, and a laundry room with a bathroom.

The main backdrop in the interior is formed by snow-white walls and brickwork. In some areas, a color accent was added using black-textured wall surfaces. Wooden beams and columns were integrated into the interior as characteristic aesthetic elements. Their processing and coloring to the desired shade were done at the production facility under the supervision of FORM bureau.

Almost all furniture was custom-made in Ukraine based on sketches by the project authors. This includes a kitchen made from veneered plywood, an island with black fronts and ceramic countertops, connected to a table made from solid walnut wood, and a metal cabinet designed specifically for the guitar collection of the client. All soft furnishings were made by a Ukrainian company. Only dining chairs, appliances, and sanitary fixtures were ordered from various European brands. The textile for the project was selected in natural fabrics, including linen in calm and neutral tones. Decorative elements include floor-standing lamps, coffee tables, wool-free carpets, and various glass and ceramic decor.

The main secret of this project is a sense of moderation and control over proportions, which provide a feeling of peace, balance, and tranquility. The project authors aimed to achieve an ideal balance between space, light, and volumes, leaving only necessary items in the right proportions. Behind all this simplicity lies coordinated work by the team.
