Family Cottage with Panoramic Lake Window in Canada
A home with a panoramic window, presented by YH2 in collaboration with Karl Schoket and Etienne Sedillo, is located in the municipality of Saint-Eloi-de-Caseau in the province of Quebec, Canada.
The lake window is the very essence of the cottage. A warm, simple wooden house opens up to the peaceful surface of the lake and to nature itself. The building stands just steps away from the shoreline of Lake Placent in the Morris region. Thanks to its simplicity, restraint, and sophistication, the project embodies an architect's attempt to capture the meaning of life in a wooden structure designed for relaxation and offering genuine connection with nature.
The large gable of the wooden construction covers all living space as well as a small porch. Both the roof and walls are fully clad in white cedar boards.
On both sides of the building, three large, tall glass panels are visible, creating a smooth transition between interior and exterior spaces.
The absolute transparency of the southern facade with a view of Lake Placent allows enough sunlight in autumn and winter, while the dense trees between the house and the lake scatter summer sun and provide maximum privacy during boating season. The unique texture of the structure sets a distinctive rhythm of light and shadow.
This is a true family cottage for relaxation, accommodating up to 12 people in two bedrooms on the first floor and a sleeping area on the second level.
