A Residential House for Solitude Lovers
A private house Simple House designed by the studio Moon Hoon was built in Cheju, South Korea. Unstable weather has long driven the rhythm of city life here, as it is often very windy. Basalt rocks mark boundaries between fields and individual houses. Cheju Island is considered exotic among Koreans, as the weather conditions and vegetation remind them of tropics. Time here flows quite differently.
The final form of the building is a complete opposite to its original concept. Initially a single-story house, it was erected vertically. This shift in perspective led to spaces overlapping each other, forming three floors with a gap in the middle of the second level. The structure now boasts greater presence, but the designers needed something more to give it individuality. Strong winds and rain helped shape a house with three rotating floors. Powerful gusts of wind, causing concern, prompted securing the structure at its extreme points.
The rotation effect allows views of living spaces from various angles. This original architectural solution facilitated the creation of several spacious terraces, suitable for all kinds of outdoor activities.
