Oak-Finished House in Australia
Spacious new house designed by AM Architecture studio, built in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. The plot is located in Camberwell, on a unique L-shaped platform with a view of a green park.
The desire to maintain a connection with the old park, its majestic trees, inspired the designers to introduce the pavilion concept as a design solution. Wooden columns form the boundaries of the space, their rhythm creates an impression of spatial depth, concealing the solid surface of the energy-efficient glass units. The tension line of the suspended fireplace reinforces vertical directions in the interior. The horizontal measurement addresses the middle of the past century with its steel details and natural materials.
The expressive texture of clinker brick offers an original rhyme between living area and the external environment. The walls are constructed so that their thermal mass can withstand morning, noon, and sunset sunlight, regulating internal temperature throughout the year. Direct solar illumination is diffused by overhangs on the northern side of the building, as well as by blinds on the northeast and northwest facades.
Natural air circulation is provided in the rooms, and the natural oak wood was once trees growing on this site.
