Cozy Seafront House in Helsinki
The MK5 house is the latest project by ORTRAUM Architects studio, realized for the company's partner and his five-person family. The 230 square meter house is located on a slope of a plot situated on the Jolleas peninsula, close to Helsinki's city center, Finland.
The desire to establish special relationships with the natural environment determined an unconventional window placement, which creates a variety of views and an abundance of daylight in every part of the house.
The first floor includes a living room with an open layout, and the basement features a sauna and service rooms.
On the upper floors, architects designed four bedrooms.
The house structure is made from specially developed CLT panels. Siberian larch wood was used for facade cladding, floor decking, and furniture.
Materials were selected with natural aging of wood in mind. Vertical strings are stretched on the southern side of the building to support climbing plants, which over time will create a 'green screen' offering additional privacy from the road.
