The project, developed by architects Estudio Ramos in the province of General Rodriguez, Argentina, was commissioned by a well-known polo player in the country.
The 3600 square meter complex consists of a stable designed for 44 horses — with stalls and service rooms. It is located in a special region of Argentina known as La Pampa. 'Pampa' translates to 'plain'. The local landscape is characterized by an exceptional sense of endless horizon, almost like in the middle of the ocean. This feature of the terrain inspired architects during the project, with its clear emphasis on horizontal simplicity.
The roofs of the building are planted with local wild grasses, which contrast beautifully with the perfect turf field for polo. Gentle slopes serve both as access to the roof and as natural bleachers from which matches can be watched.
The construction uses two primary materials: rough concrete and local wood species. These were chosen for their aesthetic qualities, low maintenance costs, and beautiful aging.
Architects managed to create a truly unique atmosphere of close connection between horses and the people who train and care for them. The stables were conceived as a space that nurtures and fosters these relationships.
