Unforgettable Home Design in San Francisco
Four-story townhouse Remember House, designed by Edmonds + Lee Architects for a close-knit family of three, sits on a gentle hillside slope in San Francisco, USA.
Designers began by bringing the clients' wishes to life, with their aesthetic focus centered on minimalism in white. The living space became a seamless canvas, akin to a museum or art gallery, where the primary visual interest lies in artwork and decor. This neutral backdrop gained its continuity through materials chosen for smooth transitions over sharp angles.
The most significant element was the choice of exterior palette. Architects proposed a counterpoint to the white interior and the two neighboring houses in varying shades of white. The building is clad in dark material, emphasizing its distinction from neighbors and its own content.
The creators also developed finishes and furniture, maintaining stylistic unity throughout the project. Working on the layout, they thought not only about space but also about interior design. The company's aesthetic sensibility allowed for an engaging choreography of architectural lines—precise, vibrant, and paradoxical—such as sliding doors in a large window frame or Douglas fir wood parquet flooring.
Remember House, which translates to 'House of Memories' in English, was named by the clients as a reminder of where they came from and what they achieved to be here. Always remember that architecture, space, and design form the foundation for a beautiful and unforgettable life.
