Beach House in Nova Scotia
The very name of the project, Lockeport Beach House — "Beach House" — developed by Nova Tayona Architects in one of the spots on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada, contains irony. Indeed, during all your journey to the house, the beach will never come into your field of vision. Despite the dramatic location of the site on the coastline, clients were attracted precisely by its secluded and cozy character. Low evergreen spruces and firs covered with lichen shield the house from the beach side and protect the sandy soil from erosion. The clients' love for listening to the ocean rather than watching it became the starting point of the project.
Clad in black-painted wood, the house stands out against the forest background and contrasts with its bright interior. The building area is 195 square meters. To ensure storm protection, the structure is reinforced with a pile system driven 6 meters into the sand. On this foundation, a lightweight single-story structure with an asymmetrical gable roof was built. The upper part contains public zones — the living room, dining area, and kitchen, while the lower part houses cozy bedrooms.
