Villa on Lake Zurich
The studio Meier Architekten was invited to work on the construction of a villa in one of the picturesque corners of the canton of Zurich, Switzerland, already after the preliminary building design had been developed by the Italian firm Kathrin Gruber — ArchitekturDesign.
The three-story building located on a slope is divided into three areas: the ground level is dedicated to two children of the owners, the middle floor contains the common area — kitchen, dining room and living room, and the upper level houses the parents' bedroom and guest rooms.
One of the key elements of the villa is the through-the-wall shelf, forming a single structure with the staircase. The idea was to present the entrance area as open and connected to the living room, while at the same time defining a boundary between these two zones.
The white minimalist fireplace placed between the dining and living areas also functions as a room divider in this open-plan space.
The kitchen with an L-shaped work area and tall cabinets is made of artificial stone Corian, which in combination with oak parquet and a black steel wall gives the interior a soft elegance. The main highlight of the dining room is the corner seating by the window. "My morning ritual is always the same: I sit with coffee in the attic and look out at the lake and mountains," says the owner.
