The architectural concept of this project by Bach Design Studio in North Carolina is to create a retreat space where nature is always at the center of attention and where one can fully enjoy leisure and luxury of vacation life. The building blends seamlessly into its natural surroundings.
Surrounding terraces unite these structures and create a platform for numerous open relaxation areas, protected from weather conditions. Spaces interweave, emphasizing the panoramic view of mountains and lake, blurring the boundaries between interior and exterior.
The combination of minimalist details, including natural unfinished wood, white walls, large glass panels, and simple furniture, gives this rural yet contemporary house a distinctive character. Large windows provide passive solar heating in winter, while trees shade the building in summer, maintaining cool indoor temperatures and minimizing energy consumption.
The house is built from easily accessible local eco-friendly materials.
The dwelling was awarded the Merit Award by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in 2017.
