House in Gdansk
"House for Elena" — such is the name of a project developed by the studio Ministerstwo Spraw We Wnetrzach in Gdansk, Poland.
The interior of the house was inspired by its internal structure, with existing spatial divisions into separate rooms. The main tension arises from the dialogue between wood and concrete, which are the primary materials used in finishing. The interweaving of their relationships, where different surfaces struggle to coexist with one another, defines the character of the spaces: wood-clad walls seamlessly transition into wooden ceilings — which are adjacent to white suspended panels.
Yet noble, bright oak wood proves to be the winner here. Its warm texture emits a sense of joy and warms its numerous shades of gray, which distinguish the concrete and other hard materials used in the finish.
The atmosphere of the house also carries subtle irony, for example, shown by the unexpected appearance of Banksy's artwork in the bathroom. The decoration of children's rooms corresponds to the age and interests of their occupants. A fitness room is provided on the ground floor, adorned with images of sports celebrities.
