JIKKA is a project developed by Issei Suma Studio in Ito, Japan.
Five connected small volumes topped with round conical roofs resemble gnome houses.
Concrete structures are clad externally with light wood. Inside, there is nothing superfluous—strict, unadorned spaces evoke memories of a simple hut or monastic cell. Large semi-circular windows and glass doors, combined with the warm color of wood, make the houses cozy rather than cold. The unusual spiral-shaped pool adds a fantastical note to the interior.
The large kitchen is open to the community, functioning as a restaurant during the day that uses local ingredients. Meals are also delivered to a nearby elderly person living alone.
