Eco-Friendly House Among California Vineyards14 photos
A 200-square-meter house designed by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects among the vineyards of Cloverdale in California, USA, stands on the site of a wooden structure from the 1970s. The building was not well integrated into the landscape, although it occupied a favorable plot with a beautiful view and a small pond located lower down the slope.
Following principles of sustainable development, the owners wanted the house to have minimal impact on the site and be easy to use.
Childhood memories inspired the creation of a living room-veranda as an important part of the house. Including the veranda in the body of the building allowed it to function both as an entrance to guest bedrooms, eliminating the need for a corridor and reducing the overall footprint of the construction.
The roof is equipped with photovoltaic cells and solar panels that provide most of the energy needed for the house. All internal and external wooden cladding was made from planks of the old house.
