Chalet in the French Alps
Chevallier Architectes studio took on the project of the mountain chalet Whymper in Chamonix, France, when it was on the verge of being abandoned. There were many restrictions during the work, mainly related to its location at the boundary of a protected green zone, but the Chevallier Architectes team carefully studied the package and proposed solutions that enabled successful completion of construction.
The architecture of the main building features classical elements, sharply contrasting with the modern addition characterized by large windows and minimalist forms. The stone basement supports the house and unifies its volumes.
The materials of the project were selected after careful research. For example, many elements of the old wooden structure underwent additional treatment to match the chosen color palette.
The upper floor, suspended above the living room space, is an example of a solution that fulfills the owner's wish – not putting the view of picturesque mountain peaks of Chamonix at risk. The peaks of Dru and Eiger Vert can also be admired from the kitchen and even from the pool located in the basement.
The building is equipped with the most modern equipment, including advanced home automation systems integrated into the project from the beginning of construction.
