House in Old Mill in Portugal11 photos
At the foot of two imposing cliffs, torn equally by the fierce flow of a stream and time, the old mill in Figueira dos Vinhos, Portugal, has found shelter. Studio Bruno Dias Arquitectura breathed new life into this picturesque structure, transforming it into comfortable living.
Only one material was used in the interior — pine wood, one of the main natural elements of the region. Combined with clean white walls, it creates a strict yet fresh atmosphere of rural life. External interventions are limited to window frames replaced with new wooden constructions with double glazing and improved roof insulation. Interior spaces are defined by their purpose and lighting. Four functional zones were created: for relaxation, hygiene, dining, and leisure.
This house is a sanctuary where rural simplicity and the opportunity to connect with nature, on one side, coexist organically with the comfort of modern housing, on the other.
