The studio A for Architecture implemented the project of a private house with an area of 800 square meters in the city of Pune, India. The brick residence was built on the outskirts of the settlement and borders a forest, which the architects used to their advantage by providing a garden on the back yard territory and opening the day zone rooms toward nature. At the same time, the main feature of the house is its introverted character, where the private life of the owners is protected by massive brick walls. The dynamic play of volumes and light opens to visitors only inside the mansion.
Natural materials were used in the interior, including black granite floors referencing the basaltic finish of historical temples and fortresses of this region; exposed brick walls reminiscent of traditional Indian weaving patterns; wood in the ceiling lining of the day zone; as well as grey-green concrete window blocks.
This house is an example of a successful attempt to create a protected home hearth in an urban environment, where residents can freely interact with each other and with nature.
