Tourist Association of Stavanger organizes active activities for youth and elderly people, families, lovers of hiking and mountaineering. In 2013, it held an architectural competition for building self-service mountain cabins in Norway. The buildings should be modern, lightweight, and use ready-made factory modules. The project by KOKO architects won. A new group of buildings with a total area of 350 square meters includes the main space, sleeping rooms, a toilet with storage room, and a sauna. There is no water supply or electricity, and heating is provided by wood. The construction also includes two gas stoves in the kitchen and solar panels providing lighting. The facade is clad with zinc panels, which allows it to withstand wind and snow and requires no maintenance for many decades. Wood is used extensively in the interior to create a warm and friendly atmosphere. All buildings feature glass walls with panoramic views of the surrounding picturesque landscape. The main building has a kitchen, living room, and sleeping area that can accommodate from 30 to 35 people. Small cabins house up to five tourists.
