Apartment on Roof in Milan
Studio untitled architecture worked on the interior design of a 30-square-meter apartment in Milan, Italy. The space on the attic of an old residential building was initially small and dark. Architects managed to expand and alter its perception by transforming the existing geometry and increasing the amount of natural light.
The semi-cylindrical staircase consists of three simple elements: natural marble, steel, and wood. Its curved shape creates a strong contrast with the sharp geometry of the apartment.
Due to the small size of the apartment, built-in furniture was designed along the perimeter to, on one hand, leave as much free space as possible, and on the other, ensure continuity between various functional areas of the apartment.
The choice of materials is neutral and includes rough white plaster on walls and ceiling, oak floors, and light wood furniture, highlighting the irregular geometry of the apartment.
Two enlarged windows in the roof let in plenty of light into the apartment, creating a bright atmosphere and expanding the sense of interior space.
