Footballer's Apartment in Slovenia
An apartment with a total area of 100 square meters designed by the architectural bureau AB objekt is located in the historical center of Maribor, Slovenia. This space reveals the architectural beauty of cities built at the end of the 19th century. Sometimes it turns out that the best a architect can do to improve the quality of life is to completely clear existing space without adding any new elements.
When the cracked plaster was removed from the apartment, the poetic essence of construction became visible. Less than a century ago, brick was not considered a particularly valuable material and was covered with plaster; at that time it was a decent choice. However, in modern architecture, the main design motivation is the open display of the structural basis of living spaces, such as concrete and wooden structures. Well-preserved brick, hidden under a layer of plaster for a century, creates an atmosphere at least as significant as raw concrete.
The old apartment in an exceptionally beautiful location was purchased by a Maribor footballer. According to the client, this acquisition will not become a family home but a place for enjoying life. But no architect can predict all the possibilities of space. The most interesting ones are spontaneous, unforeseen, even secret or hidden.
