An apartment with a total area of 120 square meters, located in the historical center of Murcia, Spain, was completely renovated by the architectural bureau Studiogaraje.
The young growing family who was to move into the completed home prioritized spending as much time together as possible, which made the common areas (living room, dining room, and kitchen) of utmost importance.
The strategy was defined at first glance: create a large open-plan area including the dining room, living room, and kitchen along the entire length of the external façade, relocating bedrooms to the interior of the building as the clients considered them less important rooms.
During the renovation, old construction systems were exposed and became central elements of the project. Arched ceilings, metal supports, and rough brick surfaces—hidden for decades under layers of plaster—were brought to the surface and defined the authentic atmosphere of the apartment.
A large fresco painted by artist Ángela Simón Casanova decorates the residence hallway, giving it a unique character.
