The goal of this project proposed by Ashari Architects was to transform the existing attic warehouse into a livable apartment in the Iranian city of Shiraz. Unlike typical spatial divisions where each area is designated for a specific type of activity, the resulting residence represents a single space that transforms according to various functions and activities.
The metal mesh built into the front of the window and wrapped in grapevines protects from intense summer sunlight, while not blocking weak winter sunshine, and finally enhances the atmosphere of solitude and visual quality of the interior space.
A semi-open terrace was constructed on the roof, which can be used for lunch, barbecue, and as a smoking area.
The interior was designed to ensure comfort throughout the day and night. All service rooms such as kitchen, refrigerator, washing and drying machines, closet, and storage areas are built into the perimeter so that they can be hidden behind sliding doors if desired.
A multi-functional table was developed for dining, reading, working, and other daily tasks. Two-level seating at the intersection of floor and wall surfaces creates not only a relaxation zone but can also be used as storage.
