Apartment with area of 107 square meters in the center of Montreal

Apartment on Boulevard Saint-Laurent in the heart of Montreal, Canada, designed by Atelier Barda in a modern minimalist style. Architects were given the opportunity to renovate this accommodation used for housing international clients and employees in the fashion industry. Since the space is a compromise between a hotel room and loft-style apartments, a simple and harmonious design solution was required that would satisfy the diverse tastes of its residents.

The kitchen, finished with matte black-stained oak, showcases subtle variations in shades that change depending on lighting conditions. Built-in cabinets are aligned with the marble countertop. The thickness of materials was concealed to emphasize sharp edges at surface junctions. Marble, stained oak, and gypsum board seem to have no thickness at all, as if they were simply horizontal bands of color in abstract painting. Using contrast and playing with the perception of volume, architects gave the space a unique contemporary style.

Appliances are hidden behind flush-mounted doors with recessed handles. Thanks to their furniture design studio Foraine, architects also designed all the furniture pieces, creating a functional and refined collection. Two spacious leather sofas and a compact coffee table are the focal point in the living room, while a metal bookcase and marble bench along the entire length of the opposite wall complete the look. The dining table and benches with black metal tubular bases, made from solid oak, complement the materials used in the kitchen. The bed frame and desk in the bedroom are made from solid oak, forming minimalist and clean lines.
