Apartment in the Center of Turin
Studio Marcante-Testa | UdA Architetti executed the project of apartment reconstruction with a total area of 160 square meters in Turin, Italy. Despite the fact that the residence is located in a 19th-century building in the heart of the city, the space was completely featureless and had lost all its original historical features. This was a blank canvas that allowed architects to write a new history, full of quotes from the past interpreted in a modern way and balanced on an unstable equilibrium.
The passage between these parts of the apartment is emphasized by a two-level kitchen/laundry room volume: the internal structure, from which metal frames extend, creates new visual trajectories that divide the space into functional zones.
Space zoning is done not only horizontally but also vertically. The lower level is defined by the floor design in Seminato technique, followed by a system of metal frames to which lights are mounted, and finally the upper part of the walls covered with soft-tone plaster or tiles.
