Elements Residence by William Kaven Architecture

William Kaven Architecture has completed the design of Elements Residence on the outskirts of Mosier, Oregon. This stunning modern home creates just under 2000 square feet of living space consisting of two glass rectangular volumes rising above the ground and providing access to breathtaking panoramic views.

Elements is located seventy miles east of Portland, on the outskirts of Mosier, Oregon. Comprising two glass rectangular volumes, Elements is an architectural response to climatic extremes.

Sunken into a steep northern slope, the house is oriented to maximize views of the Columbia River and the Coyote Syncline. The first level of construction serves as a base containing main sleeping areas. The entry foyer, designed for reception and vertical circulation, also helps separate the master bedroom and garage.

Above it, an open second level layout is surrounded by a solid glass wall that softens the impact of elements while maintaining spectacular views. Elevating the most active housing and dining programmatic elements, they are visually connected to the landscape below, framing daily life through epochs of geological and hydrological processes. A dramatic cantilevered terrace faces west toward the river, creating expansive outdoor recreation space.
