Water, one of the four elements, calms the mind, brings strength and a charge of energy.

Psychologists recommend watching an aquarium with fish or a fountain to relieve nervous tension. Some diseases have been cured with water since ancient times.

In modern apartments, small aquariums or decorative fountains are often found.

Today we offer you to make such a fountain yourself.

For a DIY fountain, you will need:

  • a flower pot with a tray
  • a small water pump (available at markets or construction stores, costs around 7 US dollars)
  • ceramic, glass and acrylic paints, spray paints and outlines (all can be bought at art or craft stores)
  • various aquarium stones
  • plastic algae and plants for aquariums
  • decorative lock (for an aquarium or a plastic toy)

The flower pot is the base for the fountain. It should be painted.

You can paint it as you wish, draw characters from fairy tales. You can draw a magical forest or an abstract design. Everything depends on your wishes and imagination. We chose a mosaic look. For this, we drew random grid lines with a golden outline.

Then we filled all the cells with paint. Acrylic, glass and ceramic paints — anything at hand works.

Using a spray paint (blue, light blue or green), we painted the inside of the pot and tray.

To prevent paint splashes from spoiling the design on the front side, wrap the outer part of the pot with a cloth.

We have already done the main part!

Place the fountain pump under the tray. To ensure water circulation, make a small hole in the bottom (drain). Also, you will need to thread the water pump hose through this hole. The easiest way is to make the hole with a heated iron nail.

The remaining details: paint the water lock with ceramic or glass paint, and edge the fountain with colorful pebbles.

All the preparations are done, you can now assemble the fountain. Thread the water supply tube through the lock opening. Fill the bottom with aquarium stones. Arrange artificial algae and plants. And you can turn on the fountain! This is a wonderful way to relax made with your own hands. By the way, it can make a great gift!
