Modern Minimalist Transformation of an Apartment in the NEVATOWERS Residential Complex
Located in the NEVATOWERS residential complex, this 110 sqm apartment is a testament to modern minimalist design. The clients, founders of a major IT company, approached Ekaterina Zhigaleva after being inspired by one of the designer's previous projects shown on television. Despite initial design constraints due to the 'white box' apartment, including partitions, electrical wiring, and already purchased furniture such as a kitchen, sofa, and kitchen island, Zhigaleva embraced the challenge. The result was an elegant and functional interior that combines strict lines with visual appeal.
Design Concept and Challenges
The space was handed over by the developer in a partially completed state, offering only basic elements for further customization. Despite these limitations, the clients' strong commitment to contemporary aesthetic perception and willingness to experiment with design possibilities created an opportunity for a bold and innovative transformation.
The challenge was working with existing structural elements and integrating already purchased furniture into a unified concept that aligns with the strict modern and minimalist style. Integration was key to ensuring that the final result not only met the clients' wishes but also maximized the apartment's potential.
Design Approach: Minimalism and Functionality
The apartment's interior is characterized by a strict minimalist design, focusing on clean lines, neutral tones, and a sense of spaciousness. The simplicity of the palette, with soft grays, whites, and blacks, creates a calm atmosphere that allows textures and materials to take center stage. The restrained aesthetics give an effect of cinema, especially on overcast days when the full spectrum of muted tones comes alive.
Although the space may seem cold to some, its charm emerges through the interplay of textures—soft fabrics, warm lighting, and gentle hues that invite a feeling of coziness and intimacy. This minimalist design does not mean blandness but creates a peaceful sanctuary, a quiet corner away from the outside world.
Immersive Experience: 'Science Fiction'
One particularly memorable moment in the design occurs during low cloud cover, when the view from the windows is enveloped by a uniform white mist, transforming the windows into light boxes. This phenomenon gives the feeling of being inside a future spaceship, evoking a sense of traveling through space. This immersive experience enhances the feeling of calm and detachment, emphasizing the reflective nature of the design.
Materiality and Textural Contrast
The apartment is an example of how textures and materials can significantly enhance minimalist design. The design team selected high-quality fabrics, soft lighting, and carefully chosen finishes that add warmth and richness to the space. Natural materials such as wooden accents and stone complement the elegance of the furniture and design elements, creating a balance between modernity and nature.
Conclusion: Successful Transformation
Despite initial doubts and design limitations, the transformation of this 110 sqm apartment in the NEVATOWERS residential complex became a remarkable success. Ekaterina Zhigaleva's thoughtful approach to design, combined with the clients' openness to experimentation, led to a space that blends aesthetics with functionality. Clean lines, muted tones, and carefully selected materials create a home that feels both futuristic and cozy—a true reflection of modern minimalist principles.
